Video games have come a very long way over the years, and throughout the long history of their legacy, they have impacted a wide variety of people. Out of the many different types of video games, one of the most popular styles of games is dirt bike games. Everyone loves to race, and everyone enjoys competing against each other. Over the past two decades, dirt bike games have evolved over time and have become graphically more powerful, and have incorporated all kinds of new features. The following is a crash course on dirt bike games and how they have impacted video gamers all over the world.
In 1985, Nintendo released one of the very first pioneers of the dirt bike style videogames, and the game was called Excitebike. This was one of the very first dirt bike games to come out in a long line of different types of games that would span across multiple platforms. Excitebike was a launch title on the Nintendo Entertainment System, and became one of the most popular dirt bike games of all time. It has a sequel, Excitebike 64, which of course came out on Nintendo’s 3rd system, the Nintendo 64. Excitebike was given an HD makeover recently as an online downloadable game on the Nintendo 3DS handheld.
Excitebike started a chain reaction that would see the release of many different types of dirt bike games. Road Rash was another hugely successful game that involved dirt bikes. Road Rash added a new twist to the game though, allowing you to fight other people on bikes on top of the traditional racing format. In Road Rash, racing to the finish wasn’t enough; you would in fact need to battle other racers who would also try to take you out if not careful. Road Rash would span a number of sequels over many years across multiple gaming platforms.
Most recently, games such as Mario Kart Wii have added dirt bikes to the games format. Dirt bikes were not originally part of Mario Kart games, but because of the popularity of dirt bike games, Nintendo found it to be a good idea to start offering players the ability to race in dirt bikes if the wanted to with their favorite Nintendo characters.
Over the most recent years, we have seen a big time interest in playing games online, especially dirt bike games. Some of the new video game systems are now coming out with these games that focus a lot more on online multiplayer, more so than ever before. There are also games that are on the Internet that can be played in a multiplayer setting. Some of these online dirt bike games are free to play on websites, and others are played over a paid membership.
